These three films directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who founded Studio Ghibli, all seem to have the same editor and music composer, and two share the same producer. The films also share the same animation style that is unique to studio ghibli. Themes that are explored within all the films are child/teenager/young (usually) female protagonists, usually with male supporting characters. They often explore the spirit realm or different spirits, gods or demons.

Auteur theory

Auteur is someone who is recognizable through their style, patterns, techniques, storytelling methods, themes, sometimes colour pallets, technical construction, dialogue/script and sometimes actors.
Recognized by their identifiable style.

Found as auteurs- Akira Kurosawa, Micheal Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock, Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Anderson, Hayao Miyazaki and Steven Spielberg.

JJ Abrams - directed Mission Impossible 3, Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Super 8.

Spaced analysis

editing- lots of whippan transitions. Explanation of plans with images and comic book style drawings instead of the character just explaining it.
camerawork- dolly zoom shot to add tension, exaggeration.
notes- fake fight has faster edit pace as it goes along, slow motion on them falling and 'dieing' within the fake fight, non linear timeline- flashbacks. transition with the coin from the flip to being put on the table. Use of drinks to show passing of time.
red lighting on the guy who found the keys.
birds eye view of the stew to show the drugs being put into the food.
non diegetic sounds added to the fake fight, gunfire sounds fade into the scene.

Sherlock analysis

BBC Sherlock Analysis Notes

costume- sherlock is wearing smart dark clothing making him look smart and possibly in control? Irene Adler is wearing nothing so that no hints to whether her character is good or bad are given away?
Dialogue- Irene has a sultry, flirty tone and sherlock has a demanding and monotonal one
camerawork- closeup and sped up for deductions to make them appear that sherlock is deducing everything within seconds but slow when it comes to irene because he can't deduct anything.
editing- transitions from one place to the next, indoors to outdoors in one shot.
music- builds tension
colour- light, pale neutral colours, hinting at a neutral sided character, but has red lipstick and red and black shoes, possibly to show danger.
Power- whoever has power in the shot seems to be stood up, a shot from below to show they have power and a shot of the person not in control looking to their eyeline
gender- Irene uses her sexuality as a distraction to gain control of the convocation, male clothes the female. sherlock looks weak and panicky to get into the house and his demeanour changes when inside. Americans wearing black and have a weapon.
